Over the years
So many many things have happened since my last post. Gauri married Sohan Shirgaokar in 2015 and since then has been living in Kolhapur. I miss her though she talks to me almost every other day on the phone. She also visits us whenever possible once in two three months. We do visit her as well. Now in Mumbai, its just me and Jyotsna in the house, sometimes it gets lonely. We still have sushant who after completing his MBA from Grenoble France returned back and now works with a big retail chain. He is in Mumbai but lives on his own at a different location. Meets us on weekends. Now tomorrow is his engagement ceremony with Shrungi, a nice pretty girl. They get married in June this year. So a new addition to our family.
Last few years we have seen quite a bit of travelling with or without sushant. Malaysia, Spain Portugal, Srilanks, Vietnam, japan USA . Wish we have more relaxing outings with sushant and shrungi in the future. Jyo retires in June and even I am getting tired.
Have started feeling lonely and emotionally drained. These bouts are some how or the other are getting more and more. I try to come off it but other things keep them triggering. Have to find a way out of this and be more happier. Lets see what holds in the future

Retired from pidilite, after 16 years of service with them? Friday 28th June was my last day in office at pidilite. The company never made use of my talent, networking, reputation, especially the last one year. The new joinees and the promotes are the losers. But who am I to say. Well I am over with it and took it in my stride. Now looking forward to my new life without Pidilite

ज्योत्स्ना ५० थ बर्थडे
Yesterday was Jyotsna 50th birtday and we had invited all family(58) to Rami International at Dadar for lunch. The event started from 11:00 in the morning till 15:30. Kiran had made a banner of jyotsna picture and Sushant and gauri made a movie with old family snaps. I for the first time delivered a speech in fron of the family on the family It included names of all present . The program was a great hit and made Jyotsna very happy to comment that this was a "benchmark" in celebrations. The movie we shall try to put on UTube and pictures on the blogas nad when I get them .The speech is given below
Shyam speech on Jyotsnas 50th birthday on 21st June 2009
The second child born to Mrs Vijaya and Mr Manohar karnik, after the birth of Jeevan Chandra(Kiran as you all know him) was a female, who was named Jyotsna(was the barsey done by Baby aatye). The first girl child, of the next generation of Rajaram and Janaki Weling. Born in the wee hours (0240 hrs) of Friday, the 21st of June 1959, at Rukminibai Hospital. This is at the end of Peddar road the so called South Mumbaikar, That’s where her style and habits come from.
Her childhood was spent in the Karnik Mansion at Mulund where she was taught thikrya and chor police by Anil and Uday and occasionally Arun and Raju who visited on holidays. Her school leaving certificate announces that she was in Pintovilla at Shivaji park, from here she moved to Poddar, THE commerce college of those days and present. Amongst all of us here there are only two other Poddarites, Sangita and satshil
Jyotsna Manohar Karnik became Jyotsna sanjiv(shyam) Kamat in the first half of October 29th 1982, the second daughter in law of Malini and Yashwant Kamat. The first one was Sushma Vengsarkar and the third Deepa Kantak, who unfortunately is not able to be present here since shriya is down with typhoid and Prashant Cahrvi need to be at home in Vapi We all wish her a speedy recovery
Jyotsna as a person is very dedicated to the family (all of you who are here and some not)and has absolutely no mental barriers when she has to do something for her people and also in what she believes. The first time I noticed this when we were building our house in dombivli when in spite of working full day in Dadar branch she used to go three times to the building site just to check on the progress. There were and are many such instances which many of you would have experienced whilst interacting with her or heard from others. Her friendly and helping nature has made her a lot of friends in different starts of society. She is friendly with the peon in century mills and at the same time at ease with the owner of a company or a University professor.. Jyotsna is a people’s person and gets on well with absolutely anyone known or stranger. Baby wagles brother always comments that Jyotsna has the ability to make friends whilst crossing the road and engage in conversation on the road divider. What she talks probably only she could tell. Honestly I have given up figuring what it could be
Being the first niece of the Weling Uncles, Raman (of USA Fame), Madhav or Chotu( the Dahisar King),Bal, (Dombivli Raja), Vilas, (Kharwas provider) and Nana (the cool and quiet and always helpful), Jyotsna has always had a special place in their minds and their families. Would you believe it that Dada Aroskar and Seema invited us for a special lunch to their cozy home in dombivli, and when I asked what is the occasion they humbly said to meet Jyotsna and Shyam. We were touched. Such is the love Jyotsna attracts from her near and dear ones. The other day she had a call from pratiksha USA and Milind and Lata maami joined in just to wish her. In fact Jyotsna had arranged for their tickets but they are busy and could not attend and for this Milind arranged for a “Black Forest Cake and Flowers to be delivered, yesterday at our home
I would fail miserably in Jyotsna eyes if I do not mention the way she strongly stood “alone” when natural disaster struck our house in Dombivli. When the calamity occurred she was in Aurangabad to meet Sushant. Gauri was held up in Chembur and I was abroad
I can imagine the trauma she must have gone through when she came back to see our home of 20 years, ravaged by the flood. Jyotsna is a very resourceful person and because of her nature people go out of the way to assist her. It was with the help of an army person on vacation that she single handily cleaned the 3 feet sludge in the house
Jyotsna has this uncanny way of helping humans as well as animals. I remember her serving breakfast to the news paper boy every day for years just because his family had disowned him Or the time when she took a box of pedhas to the police station in Bandra who did their duty of recovering a lost mobile Or the monthly 7 kg glucose biscuits I was made to buy for stray dogs like sunny, mothu, kalya,Jackie or when she donates to the widows benevolent fund or when she gives away the diwali gifts she receive in office to other staff members. She is very emotional an example you may not believe is that when our Jackie was poisoned. Jyotsna cried all night with the feeling loss that the dog By the way the dog survived.
On the intellectual level she does not read seriously but is aware of what is happening in and around the world. She is well travelled and all of you know that, in fact if someone wants to travel abroad I strongly recommend you first discuss with her and she would give you tips on travelling like say carrying an empty bisleri bottle. If you need to know why please ask her, She is not ritualistic or over religious, but enjoys a good spiritual discussion with the likes of Madhu, Prabha Aatya, Chetan and Dada Kaka who again is not here but represented by Kumar, I think I have through Jyotsna touched all the families who are present here but would Like to mention Jyotsnas special affection to Hema mammi for her Love care and concern, Surekha for the good cook she is, Kesar and Sudha for their honesty and simplicity, Anna Prabhu, Sandhya and Geeta for their kind and understanding nature, Aditi for her sense of humour and wittiness, and Priti and Nelima for Sunday afternoons, Deepak for his ability to find happiness and enjoyment even in small things like the sound of flowing water or the sev from the stall in Matunga. Chandrashekar waagle for his considerate nature and mixing skills
Anu is always in Jyotsnas mind for being a very nice person and a fantastic host whenever we have been to Mahad and Audy who inspite of being a student in USA did not forget to bring Ferro Rocher chocolates for Jyotsna aatye. And yes Sahajanand known to you as Pappu, by the way he is a good dancer or does he make others dance to his tune, is in the unique position of being the only Kamat putnya of Jyotsna. The doctor jodi of brothers Prashant and Ameya would always be her kid brothers and therefore get a special treatment from her. Would you believe it she carries things like Mangola and lays wafers for their children and nothing but love for their wives Priya and Shamita
That leaves Gautam Prabhu and Aparjita Deshpande, Jyotsna and all of us are proud of both for their multi talented abilities be it studies, music or sport. Appu also makes poetry. Gautams results are due on 25th and we wish him all the success. Appu is now in 10th our wishes to her as well. Vibhav Salgaokar is Jyotsnas sisters son and Arvind kakas grandson, a very intelligent young boy who is off to Florida for higher studies. He leaves early August. Love and blessing to you Vibhav keep the flag flying
Jyotsna in Sanskrit means Dawn, moonlight or the morning twilight was aptly named. “Ushakaal”
That’s what jyotsna is in public, happy effervescent, helping caring enjoying partying
At home Jyotsna is like any wife and or mother, she cooks she cleans, she care she nags, she washes, she brushes, she fights she argues ,she smiles she cries, she give but does not take. All in all she loves, that’s my our Jyotsna, I am proud of her, I am sure all of you here would give your blessing so that she continues as she is and has very healthy, happy and peaceful future
